A 6’1”, 185-lb. three-sport standout from Helena Central High, Mick Robinson earned eight letters on the Hilltop – four in football, and two each in basketball and track & field – while garnering All-Conference in two sports. As a freshman gridder, he started out as the Saints kickoff specialist, and moved into the starting line-up at offensive guard at midseason, replacing older brother Bob Robinson, who suffered a neck injury. Mick began kicking extra points in 1969, and filled all three positions the rest of his career.
In a 42-12 win over Rocky, he booted 5 PATs and was named the IR’s Coca Cola “Offensive Player of the Week.” His junior year, in a 19-14 win over Rocky, Robinson kicked 2 extra points and booted three kickoffs into the end zone, despite playing with a sore hamstring. He earned a pair of All-Conference grid selections, honorable mention in 1969 and second team in 1970. As a two-time All-Frontier pole vaulter for Carroll, Mick set the school’s record of 12’7”, while capturing the 1970 Conference vault championship.
