Anaconda native Luke Rivers was a 3-year starting lineman on the Hilltop. Weighing in at a solid 172-pounds, at the close of his junior year he was selected 1949 All-Conference guard and was nominated for Little All-American. Rivers was named team captain as a senior. The Saints’ won back-to-back Conference titles his final two seasons, posting a combined overall mark of 8-3 while outscoring the opposition 176-112. Rivers received an offer to try out for the Los Angeles Rams, which he turned down in favor of a masters degree from the University of Arizona (1954), before serving several years as Saints’ assistant grid coach.
