A member of Helena High’s 1950 State runner-up “Swish Kids”, legendary Bengal coach Lloyd Skor called Larry Anderson “The best small man in the state of Montana.” A 5’11” shooting guard, he played two seasons for the Saints, as a sophomore and junior, making All-Conference both years while helping Carroll to its third and fourth consecutive league crowns.
On January 26, 1954, they became the first team in Saints’ history to score 100-points, beating Eastern Montana 104-71, with Anderson chipping in 25 counters. A memorable event took place at the 1955 District Tournament, when the Hilltoppers encountered the College of Idaho, led by future NBA Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor. Larry left the school with eight 20-point games, including a career-high 30 markers vs. Western Montana. He averaged about 13 points per game both seasons, and was selected first team All-Conference in 1954, and second team in 1955.
