Anaconda Central High great Kevin Calnan was a three-year starter at end for Carroll. Big, strong and quick, he was a 2-time All-Conference selection, in 1960 (first team) and ‘61 (second team). As a sophomore, in a 25-0 shutout over Northern, Carroll was clinging to a 7-0 lead early in the fourth quarter, and the Lights were driving deep into Saints territory when Calnan intercepted a reverse lateral at his own 15, and raced 85 yards untouched for a Pick 6.
In the 7-0 win over Eastern, he helped set-up the lone score on a long end-around run to the Yellowjackets’ 30. After the Saints earned the 1960 MCC co-championship, his senior year Kevin’s defensive efforts were publicly lauded almost weekly. In a 19-7 win over Rocky Mountain, Calnan – by being “in the opposing backfield throughout the afternoon” – helped limit the Bears to 110 total yards, 70 of which came on a single run.
