Oldest of the “Gold Dust Twins” from Anaconda Central, John Kaparich lettered in four sports at Carroll. He was a 4-year, 160-pound grid starter at guard, beginning in 1937 as a freshman with the first Saints football team on the Hilltop since 1932. Serving as team captain his senior year, CC (5-2 overall, 2-0 conference) won its last five games and won their first Montana College Conference championship in nine years.
He finished with eight total letters – four football, 2 baseball, 1 each in basketball and track (sprints). In 1941, John Kaparich played right field for the Conference runner-up Carroll diamonders. He went 2-for-3 (double, run batted in) in the semi-final 4-3 win over Montana Mines (Tech), and 2-5 (double, home run, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) in the 9-8 loss to Northern in the finals, finishing with a .500 (4-8) batting average for the tourney.
