Robinson, who was a versatile two-way player for Carroll from 1979-81, joins his older brothers - Bob, Mick, and Ed - in the Saints' Hall of Fame. His senior year, he played defensive back, backup quarterback, and returned punts. Against Western Montana, to decide the 1981 Frontier Conference championship, he replaced injured quarterback Bobby Petrino in the first period. Trailing 21-10 in the final quarter, Robinson directed two long drives and plunged for a pair of one-yard TDs himself for a 24-21 comeback victory. Robinson had been a standout gridder and hoopster at Capital High. At Carroll, the talented 5-11, 185-pound Robinson earned second team 1980 All-Frontier Conference defensive back. In 1981, he was selected to the All-District first team. "Joe was a great leader," teammate Dan Frankino said. "He made every team he played for better."
