Jerry Loendorf arrived on the Hilltop from Wolf Point, where he’d been a 3-sport athlete and a member of the 1957 East-West Shrine football game. A 6’0”, 185-pounder, Loendorf started in the Saints backfield as a freshman, rushing for a conference-leading 567 yards while averaging 6.5 yards per carry. He set a school record with a 92 yard touchdown against Western, and added a 64-yard dash to pay-dirt vs. Northwest CC.
In 1958, Jerry paced CC in scoring, reaching the end zone six times, highlighted by a four-touchdown effort against Montana Mines. His junior year, after five games he had 567 rushing yards (113 per game), which ranked 10th in the nation at the time, before sustaining a season-ending injury. He also missed his final season due to injury. Loendorf lettered as a freshman in basketball, leading the team in scoring 5 times and averaging 9.5 ppg, with a high of 22 markers vs. NWCC. In 1969, at the age of 30, he led the elders to a 26-14 win in the Alumni Game. “Jerry Loendorf, the Alumni’s oldest member and probably best player on the field,” the IR reported, “ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns.”
