Helena Cathedral High graduate Don Sullivan began his freshman year as a reserve with Carroll’s roundballers, but soon made starter and finished as the team’s No. 3 scorer. “Young Sullivan has plenty of flash and makes some uncanny baskets,” according to the Helena Daily Independent. He also lettered in football that first year. In 1942, Don was part of the Saints initial Montana College Conference basketball championship.
As a senior, he was called to military duty and missed the final five games of the season. Known as a “tough competitor and consistent scorer” throughout his career, Sullivan netted double digits in 11 games, while leading the squad in scoring in seven contests. He graduated 1943 Magna Cum Laude and was twice named to America’s “Who’s Who Among College and University Students.”
