Guy Almquist was a two-time all-conference selection for the Carroll hoops team from 1995-97. As a sophomore, Almquist connected on 16 of 16 free throws for a Carroll game record.
The Saints won the regular season and Frontier Conference tournament championships Almquist’s senior year. He hit 10 three-pointers in the title game victory over Northern Montana, which still stands as a Saints’ record, while pouring in 38 points.
“That was the best individual performance I’ve ever seen in a pressure game,” wrote Almquist’s coach, Gary Turcott.
The Saints qualified for their first trip to the NAIA playoffs in 31 years.
Almquist, who averaged 20 points per game, led the league in scoring, free throw percentage and 3-point percentage. He was selected the 1997 Frontier MVP and NAIA honorable mention All-American.
