A 6’2” forward from Helena Cathedral High, Bud Ryan played his junior and senior years on the Hilltop, helping the Saints to Montana College Conference championships in 1952 and 1953. A team “playmaker,” he had a reputation as an outstanding shooter, rebounder and ball handler. As a junior, Bud reached double figures in scoring five times and tallied 108 points. His final season he was an integral part of Carroll’s undefeated (10-0) league title. As the club’s no. 3 scorer, Ryan posted 10 double-figure games with a career-high 17 points vs. Ricks College, while averaging 10.7 ppg.
