Dave Williams, a 6’1” 180-lb. wide receiver from Libby, became the third gridder in Saints’ history to earn 4 first or second team All-Conference selections. He made second team the first three seasons from 1975-77 and first team as a senior. Williams’ freshman year he posted 30 receptions for 549 yards and two touchdowns. In 1976, he caught 29 passes for 387 yards. As a junior, he made 23 receptions for 368 yards and three scores, despite missing two games due to injury. In the season finale, a 20-7 victory over Tech, Williams was not expected to play because of a pulled leg muscle, but he still managed to catch 5 passes for 121 yards and two TDs, one of which went for 80 yards.
In 1978, Dave helped the Saints to the school’s fourth (1931, 1941, 1973) undefeated regular season (9-0) and first NAIA playoff berth. During the year he tied two team single game records, with 7 catches and 145 receiving yards, in separate games vs. Rocky Mountain. Williams concluded his career with three more Hilltop records, including his senior season marks of 41 receptions and 695 yards, and 131 lifetime catches. He was also No. 2 in career receiving yards, at 1999 yards.
