Bill Racicot was hired as Carroll’s athletic director in 1966, and served on the Hilltop in that capacity for five years. He came to Helena from Libby, where he had coached basketball for 14 years, guiding the Loggers to nine divisional titles, five State Tournament qualifications, and the 1966 Big 32 State championship. Bill became the Saints head hoops coach in the fall of 1967, a position he held until the spring of 1970.
He was also an assistant professor of physical education and served as director of the Carroll P.E. Center from its opening in 1970 until his retirement in 1970. Racicot was instrumental in starting the Carroll College Century Club (now the Saints Athletic Association), as well. Bill was the recipient of several prestigious citations, including the 1987 Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame induction, Carroll Basketball HOF Special Recognition Award, the Dick Muffick Community Appreciation Award and induction into the Carroll Alumni HOF by the National Alumni Association. In 1999, he joined his sons Marc, Tim and Pat in Carroll’s Athletic Hall of Fame. The Bill Racicot Scholarship Fund is named in his honor.
