Saints coach Bob Petrino told the IR: “Bert was a mainstay of our offensive line, he was an outstanding blocker and a great leader…I really believe he deserves (All-American).” He was listed in 1973’s edition of Outstanding College Athletes in America, as well. Glueckert also played junior varsity basketball for the Hilltoppers his freshman year. In a 74-67 win over Western’s JV, he scored 17 points and led the Saints in rebounding, and in a 2-point loss to UM’s Frosh, he speared a team-high 12 boards. Perhaps his best game was a 19-point, 14-rebound effort in a loss to Rocky’s JV.
