Wolf Creek’s Al “Bunky” Meunier, a member of Cathedral High’s 1958 District champion gridders, was a 3-year starter for Carroll, at fullback & linebacker. A stocky 5’10”, 180-lbs., he was generally regarded as one of the best blocking backs in the Conference. Mostly a short-yardage man, Meunier did produce a pair of touchdown plunges on his resume’. As a junior in 1962, he was lauded for “coming into his own” after a win over Montana Tech., mainly for running interference as the Saints rushed for 297 yards.
In the 33-13 victory over Northern, the IR reported that Bunky “ran like a man possessed,” gaining 45 yards on 9 totes (5.0 yards per carry), “but most importantly, he never lost yardage” when the pigskin was in his hands. His efforts were rewarded with a second team All-MCC selection. As a senior co-captain, Meunier’s linebacking skills were also recognized, when the paper tabbed him as one the Hilltoppers’ “best defensive players.”
