2017 Hall of Fame: Emili Woody Led the Saints to Unprecedented Heights

The most prolific rebounder in Carroll women's basketball history, Emili Woody helped lead her team to the first three NAIA Championship appearances in school history, including an NAIA round of 16 appearance in her final year while earning NAIA All-American honors. 

A native of Summerville, Oregon, Woody earned All-State honors in three sports and played in the Oregon East/West Shrine Game. She made her way east to Helena in for the 2001-02 season under veteran head coach Jim Gross.

During her freshman season, she came off the bench to contribute 159 points and grab 103 rebounds. Averaging six points and four rebounds per game. After the season, Gross closed out his storied career opening the door for new head coach Shawn Nelson who would lead the Saints to the most wins in program history in just his first season.

She broke out during her sophomore campaign, putting up monster numbers and leading the Saints to a 28-7 record, including a 12-2 mark in Frontier play to win the second Frontier title in school history but fell to Lewis-Clark 72-71 in the Frontier semifinal.  Despite the loss, Carroll earned the first NAIA Championship berth in school history. The Saints played Brescia (Ky.) in the opening round and fell 64-56.

Woody earned Frontier All-Conference First-Team honors. She was named an honorable mention All-American. She tallied 502 points, 317 rebounds and 92 steals. She also contributed 51 assists. She shot a career-high 50.1 percent from the field and averaged 14.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. 

In her junior year, the Saints again earned the regular-season conference championship and followed that up with a conference tournament crown with a 73-72 win over Montana Western to earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Championship. Carroll met Mobile (Ala.) in the first round and earned a 72-67 win. In the second round, the Saints fell to Vanguard (Calif.) 82-71. 

She earned Frontier Player of the Year honors and was named to the All-American Third-Team. She averaged 14.1 points and a career-high 9.9 rebounds. She scored 509 points and grabbed 358 rebounds in 36 games on the year. Her rebound mark is the single-season record for Carroll. 

Her senior season saw a shift to a wing/forward position where her scoring and rebounding averages ticked down, but she set career marks for assists and steals. She again earned First-Team and All-American Third-Team honors. She averaged 11.5 points, 6.97 rebounds, and 2.76 steals. 

The Saints went 27-7 on the season and fell to Montana Western in the conference championship game before making the third-straight trip to the NAIA National Championship. They dropped the opening round game to Saint Xavier (Ill.) 56-53. 

After graduation with a degree in math, Woody continued her basketball career. She played two seasons for the KUSG Leimen Young Guns. She led the league in rebounding and made deep runs into the playoffs. She led her team to a runner-up finish in her second and final season. 
After her professional career ended, she earned an industrial engineering master's from Oregon State. 

Woody now resides in Oregon where she works as a Footwear Developer for Nike. She lives with her girlfriend of five years Sally Olsen.
