KANSAS CITY – Carroll College junior point guard
Zach Taylor was named the winner of the Charles S. Stevenson Hustle Award at the Buffalo Funds NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship which concluded Tuesday with Mid-America Christian bringing home the title.
Taylor averaged 15.3 points and 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game during the tournament while playing 107 minutes in the three-game run.
He was 16 of 32 (50 percent) from the field and 7 of 14 (50 percent) from the three point line during the tournament.
The Saints won two games to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2006.
Taylor scored 10 points in the 99-82 win over Peru State in the opening round, it was his lowest scoring output of the tournament but he has his best all-around statistics with six rebounds and five assists.
He had his biggest scoring night against No. 2 overall seed LSU Alexandria in the round of 16 with 23 points, including 3 of 4 from the three-point line.
In the quarterfinals loss to Campbellsville, Taylor scored 13 points and tallied three assists.
The award is given annually to the athlete in the tournament who shows the best hustle among the 32 teams that compete in the tournament. It was first given in 1958.
