Carroll Women Tie Evergreen in Downpour

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Carroll College women's soccer braved heavy wind and rain and brutal field conditions Friday and played Evergreen State to a 1-1 tie on the road in Olympia.

The Saints and Geoducks played through the remnants of typhoons that made landfall in western Washington and Oregon Friday. It was the same storm system that caused a tornado to form on the Oregon coast.

It brought a steady downpour to Geoduck Pitch, causing water to pool on the field and frustrated the Carroll attack.

The Saints outshot TESC 22-10, including 9-0 in the first half. The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of the match on a goal  from Michaela Kueffler, assisted by Payton Netz.

Carroll dominated possession in the first half but couldn't muster another goal.

In the second half, the Geoducks started to gain some momentum and got on the board in the 63rd minute on a goal from Ellie Engel.

The weather began to clear up toward the end of the game but the field remained waterlogged hindering offensive opportunities.

Evergreen outshot the Saints 4-2 in overtime but neither team would score before time expired.

The Saints are now 6-0-2 in conference play and still control their own destiny for the conference championship with three games left on the slate.

Carroll plays Northwest in Kirkland tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Eagles are 4-2 in Cascade play after a 2OT win over Great Falls. The weather forecast is gloomy like today with heavy rain and wind predicted.
